Is the United States in Its Twilight?

History shows that the golden age of a western country only lasts for about a century. Consider the general heyday of these countries: Portugal 1500s, Spain 1600s, Netherlands 1600s, France 1800s, England 1800s and the U.S. 1900s.

Having exceeded the 100 year trend, is our nation in its twilight?

The Bible offers guidance: All governments are subject to their Creator’s authority “… for there is no authority except that which God has established.” (Romans 13: 1) The phrase “one nation under God” confirms this passage.

Scripture also recognizes that God’s authority and earthly authorities co-exist, but when the two conflict, it directs us to obey God’s. What happens when citizens don’t?

The Bible is replete with stories of cities (Sodom and Gomorrah), nations (Assyria), kingdoms (Israel and Judah) and the world itself (Noah’s world) which descended into spiritual and moral depravity. Their depravity was so great that God destroyed them or allowed their destruction by outside agents.

Is the U.S. experiencing enough depravity for God to cause or allow for our nation’s decline? Its destruction?

While contemplating our nation’s decline, we might also consider the world’s. The Bible says that one day, God will be fed up with man’s sin and destroy the world one final time (Revelation 11: 18) and substitute “a new heaven and a new earth.” (Revelation 21: 1).

Experience teaches that nothing lasts forever. When will this apply to the U.S.? To the world? Will depravity be the cause?
