Artificial Intelligence versus Man’s
Will Artificial Intelligence exceed human intelligence? Some experts think it will happen soon. Others say it’s years away. I wonder if it ever will.
What would AI look like if it exceeded man’s? It will have gone beyond being a super disseminator of human knowledge and become an independent creator of knowledge— having Artificial Generative Intelligence (AGI). Could AI use this creative ability to surpass man?
Consider that man created AI. Has anything made by man ever exceeded him? Has a clock ever become more intelligent than the clock maker? Can a clock create itself? For AI to exceed human intelligence, it would have to become something that has never existed.
Many argue that it can, because this time is different. If so, it would be hugely different —different from the Creator’s plan for mankind. God expressly made mankind in his own image and gave him dominion “over all the earth” (Genesis 1:26). God didn’t plan for A.I. to take over for mankind. Psalm 8:6 confirms, saying God allowed man to rule over creation and “put everything under his feet.”
If man created an artificial intelligence that overpowered his control, would God choose to thwart it for contravening His plan? “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21). Using His supernatural power, would God start a new creation? The one prophesied in Isaiah 65:17 and Revelation 21:1-5? The final and eternal home for His faithful people.
